Grinds My Gears: Food Edition
You know what really Grinds My Gears? Not enough condiments on my sandwich. I get an Italian hoagie from the same spot every week with no mayo, instead I get mustard. And every week I get the thinnest layer of mustard known to man. SERIOUSLY?!?! Usually take out places are more than liberal with the mayo; cured meats practically swimming in the oily mixture, but when it comes to any other condiment all of a sudden it seems as if there's a world shortage. Last I checked there was no horrible famine that ravaged mustard seed crops, or tomato fields for that matter. Sure my sandwich is tasty, but dammit if it isn't dry! If anyone reading this works at a take out place, cut us mayo-haters some slack and make our sandwiches go down a bit easier by giving more than a baby teaspoon size of ketchup and mustard.

Grinds My Gears: Smart Phone Edition
You know what REALLY Grinds My Gears? Broadcast BBM messages (for those not familiar, BBM stands for Blackberry Messenger. Its an application that allows Blackberry users to exclusively instant message each other). Don't get me wrong, every once in a while a good joke, interesting fact or vital piece of news is fine to pass along to your friends, but I am really sick of the chain mail. The "rate me/our friendship/my sexual aptitude on a scale of 1-10", or "give me a nickname", or the good ole "please message this to all your contacts. My cell carrier will donate X amount of money to save a starving kid in Cambodia". STOP IT PEOPLE!!!
If I wanted you to have a nickname I would have given it to you. No, I am not rating you (what does that matter anyway?), and if your cell provider really cared about the homeless, or starving kids in a Third World country, I'm sure they have better ways of raising money than asking their users to spam each other with broadcast messages. I mean, can they even keep track of that?! I don't think so. If you have something to say to me, or a cause you would like me to be aware of please e-mail or send me a link to a credible source. I am NOT above deleting chronic spammers (and I have), so don't be next on the list and think twice before you broadcast that message. Is it really worth it?
And that's what really Grinds My Gears.

Grinds My Gears: Ergonomic Keyboards
You know what Grinds My Gears, ergonomic keyboards. Who told Microsoft it was okay to mess with the way I type? Sure the little slope at the bottom of the board is better on the wrists, and the thicker keys cut down on the click-clack noise, but the spacing of the keys is out of control!
The keyboard is on a slight curve making some buttons smaller than usual and some longer. This causes a dilemma. I have small hands, and the travel distance to the Caps Lock, Enter, and the letter "L" buttons is just off. I type "a" in an attempt to capitalize things, the quote button when trying to push Enter, and "lol" ends up "kik". Sigh, really?! Sure, I might have gotten a slight case of carpal tunnel with my old keyboard, but we had a bond. This new one, not so much.

What Grinds My Gears: Misanthrop Edition
You know what really grinds my gears? People. People are so annoying! The most annoying things about humans is their willingness to judge. What does MY life have to do with you?! Nothing, that's what. We all judge people, and make quick assumptions based on outward appearances, hobbies, tastes in music, lifestyles, etc... However, don't spread your ASSUMED opinion about others to others, then it becomes a RUMOR. Another thing I hate; people who work the hardest get rewarded the least. Especially when it comes to one's job. I also hate that people can't be honest, humble, or generous at times. We expect so much from others, but ask yourself: What are YOU doing to motivate and inspire other people? You can only expect what you GIVE.
And that's what REALLY Grinds My Gears.

Grinds My Gears...Work Edition
You know what really Grinds my Gears? Those idiots at work that play Farmville at work all day. Thanks to those jerk-offs, I've had Facebook and Twitter officially blocked at work! Really? We couldn't close out that window when the boss comes around? I mean do some actual work for a few hours before you blatantly waste the day away. You have no one to blame but yourself for those idiotic and selfish actions, and now the rest of us productive workers (who's sanity was saved by the occasional Facebook surfing and random tweet updates) have to suffer communist style. Thanks douche bags, you will feel my wrath at the corporate meeting.

Grinds My Gears...Winter Edition
You know what really Grinds My Gears...new things. In particular, new Greek lettered organizations. Its 2010 and there are orgs that are less than 10 years old confusing and crowding the Greek pool. Now I know what you're thinking; "There was a time when YOUR organization was new too and someone probably felt the same way", and to you I would reply.. "mind your damned business!" lol. You are right to have that opinion, however, during the time my organization was created, there was a dire need for representation of a marginalized group of women. Hence, building a foundation that has endured over the past 30 years, and will continue to thrive for many more.
In the last 10 years...what has been the dire need? We have had the ENTIRE world at our fingertips for nearly since the early '90s, and you mean to tell me NO OTHER organization grabbed your attention?! Hogwash! There's an organization for everyone and everything: Blacks, Latinos, Blacks/Latinos, Whites, Chinese, Southeast Asian, West Indian, LGBT, European, Multicultural...the list goes on. Yet we STILL have schools sprouting up organizations that claim they bring a "new perspective" or "revolve around the individual." Again, I say: Hogwash!
You're confusing eager young freshman and school administration! You have no idea what it is like to build, nuture, and expand a niche organization across the country amidst the stigmas and rumors that plague the Greek community. Therefore, you decide to "make your own" to offer a choice?! On what grounds?! I can assure you that what you are striving for already exists. Do your research and join the fight, you're only hurting yourself and the rest of us by creating another version of something that already exists.
.....And that's what Grinds My Gears.

What Really Grinds My Gears...a week in review

*First off I want to thank my sans Eric Cortes for the inspiration for this blog....as well as the pic...that I "borrowed", lol.*
Even though its ONLY Wednesday, below is a Top Ten list of things that have "Grinded My Gears" this week:
1. The replacement of the washing and drying machines in my building laundry room. Yes the machines are nicer and much more efficent, but its now a $1.65 to wash and dry! a 15 cent increase. This is the 2nd increase in less than a year.....oh and there was no warning or announcement made to the residents....way to go!
2. SEPTA. *sigh* where to I begin?! Trains/buses come when they want (I swear I thought the schedule for the 55 route changed before I realized the bus was just late for a whole week, thus making me late for work, HENCE, an extra hour wait for the R7), the train lines and bus lines don't sink up at all, and to top it off, there might be a strike! Seriously?! Now, there seems to be a needle scare on the Market East Line. I am saving up a down payment for my Jetta as we speak!
3. Co-workers quick to harp on/blame me for my customers shortcomings. Ok, no one's perfect. I'll admit I make mistakes, but I learn from them. But to tease and rag on me EVERYTIME something isn't perfect....get over it and over yourselves.
4. Co-workers/people in general who feel the need to fill silence with ramblings, noises, anecdotes, misplaced laughter, or asinine conversation. Silence is Golden.
5. No more Conan O'Brien on Late Night. I thought he was taking over for Leno? Yet Leno still comes on at 11:30pm <---confused :(
6. Twitter moving slow @ work. What's the deal?!
7. People who can't take no for an answer
8. Spring weather. Yes, I am grateful to be relieved of 20 degree temperatures, with ice on the ground and biting winds, but when they turn the heat down in anticipation of Spring it might as well be 20 degrees out! My apt is no longer the steamy oasis it used to be :(
9. American Idol. People still watch this show?! I'll give $10 to someone who can find me a decent show to watch Wednesday nights at 9pm because there is nothing on!
10. Last but not least....being bored at work. I swear sometimes I can finish a week's worth of work in 4 hours but I am mandated to a desk for 9hrs a day (they say we get 1hr for lunch, but when you work through it everyday....I think they should just pay you for the 9 and give a 3 day weekend....I'm just saying). Thank goodness I have my peeps to get me through the day!
