I recently crossed off another item on my list of things to do/accomplish this year. I went to a baseball game. As a kid I was a HUGE jock. Basketball was my sport. Every team I played on was a championship team. I even helped lead my middle school to the first winning season in over 5 years. Sadly, in High School my love for the game dwindled and I gave up on my first love. Lately, I've been getting back into sports and watching everything from a baseball game to a rugby match (but not soccer), needless to say I longed to see a game in person. Maybe the old jock in me would come out full force and really have some fun.
We pulled up to Yankee Stadium to watch the rematch of last year's World Series: Yankees vs Phillies. While the Phils got slaughtered, I absolutely loved the game and the ambiance (checked in on foursquare and got 2 new badges :). While I was not impressed by $10 beers and $7 ice creams, I was impressed by the look of the field, the lights and the crowd. I can't wait to go to my next game! I'll just remember to eat before I go.

I just don't get it
The World Cup has started! Teams from across the globe are competing against one another in the most watched and played game on the planet: Soccer. My friends on Twitter (and in real life) are all abuzz, rooting for their home countries and favorite teams. Except for me. I don't get it. I just don't get soccer!
I can appreciate the athleticism but I have no concept of how it works, what the positions are, and why you can end the game in a tie. Maybe its because I'm an American, and here Soccer isn't that high on the sports totem pole. Long viewed as a hobby game for kids, Soccer is now becoming more prevalent in the US. Most states now have teams and the games are being televised on local networks. Maybe if I watch it a little more I'll understand, but for now I'll just enjoy the random tweets and comments about the games.

Philly...A GREAT sports town!
It's been some time since I've posted, I do apologize, but I've been gearing up for new artistic endeavors. More on that in 2010 :)
Philly has started to grow on me again. After nearly 8 years of living here and about 7 years of being tired of this city, I've reawakened my love affair. Philly is a great city. Mostly everything is accessible and centrally located. Sure there are PLENTY of times where I wish I had a car, especially when SEPTA trains are consistently late, but you really don't need one. There's plenty of Art, Music, Restaurants, Bars....and Sports teams!! I know I know, I could really care less about Philly sports, but you got to give it to this scrappy city; it's trying to reclaim its crown as a sports powerhouse on the East Coast. I mean you got the Phillies winning 2 pennants and 1 World Series in 2 years, Temple University's football team going to a Bowl game on a 9-3 record, the Eagles are soaring again, and Allen Iverson is once again dawning a Sixers jersey (AI has been a personal favorite of mine since his days at Georgetown)! Wow Philly, you keep it up I might have to go to a game at the new sports complex...oh did I mention they're revamping that whole area to make it more consumer friendly?? Shops, movie theaters, restaurants, and bars will fill in the void left by the music venue The Spectrum. Never thought I'd say this but....GO PHILLY!
